Nasi Liwet is one of the traditional culinary delights of Solo, very easy to find in almost all parts of the city. It’s not your common rice dish; instead of cooked with water, the velvety rice in Nasi Liwet is cooked in a mixture of coconut milk and chicken stock, seasoned with the aromatic and flavorful Bay-leaf and lemongrass, giving the rice itself a very unique and delicious taste. Side dishes commonly served with the rice are slices of omelet, opor ayam (a chicken dish mildly cooked in coconut milk, galangal and lime leaves) on a piece of banana leaf.
One of the most famous Nasi Liwet food stalls in the city is Nasi Liwet Bu Wongso Lemu in Jalan Teuku Umar, open from 5:00PM to 1:00AM.
