Friday (08/23/2019) took place the opening ceremony of the 2019 Solo Gamelan Festival, this event was held for two days on August 23-24, 2019 at Vastenburg Fortress Surakarta at 19.30 pm. The opening began with offerings from the Moncari Swara Studio, Dedek Gamelan Orchestra, composers and supporters. Head of the Surakarta City Culture Office, Kinkin Sultanul Hakim said that the theme of the Solo Gamelan Festival 2019 was Gamelan Performing in His Own Home or Home Coming. The purpose of this event is to preserve, develop, and regenerate musical actors in the city of Surakarta. In addition, to provide space for artists and all levels of society to be able to be creative in the musical field. Participants of the 2019 Solo Gamelan Festival, namely the musical group of regional ranks (OPD) heads led by Mayor Surakrta FX. Hadi Rudyatmo, karawitan from 5 districts in the city of Surakarta, and 5 composers in the city of Surakarta. In his remarks, the Mayor of Surakarta, represented by the Regional Secretary, Ir. Ahyani M.A said, “Gamelan has a deep meaning and is very relevant for people’s lives now and in the future. 

Not only for the people of Java, Indonesia, and even the world community. Gamelan or karawitan art is now worldwide, living and developing in various parts of the world. This is evidenced by the large number of overseas participants coming to Surakarta to take part in the 2019 Solo Gamelan Festival. “The holding of the 2019 Gamelan Festival shows that Surakarta City is a safe, comfortable, and conducive city to hold various international events. In addition, the International Gamelan Festival becomes important, considering that Surakarta City is a source of artists and artists who have worked both at home and abroad. In this case, the mayor of Surakarta gave his appreciation to gamelan art activists who were still diligently exploring and preserving Indonesian native culture and art. Through this event, it is hoped that it can trigger the younger generation, especially children, to be happy and proud of art and culture, traditional art, especially gamelan. So that little by little the younger generation can develop into a cultural society which in turn the community can live from a culture that is valuable. The 2019 Solo Gamelan Festival was opened by the Regional Secretary who was accompanied by the head of the Surakarta City Culture Office and the Surakarta City Muspida. The opening is marked by hitting the drum simultaneously.
